Bookstores are a great place to get lost. You enter a bookstore in Delhi and leave with what will be portals into other worlds, without even purchasing a plane ticket. And then there’s the smell of books and of course that mystical feel in the air, dense with knowledge, ponderings and muses of people past and present. So, if you want to go in search of a classic or some light escapism then look no further. Here are 3 bookstores worth mentioning when trawling Delhi:

  1. OXFORD BOOKSTORE, N-81, CONNAUGHT PLACE

If you are looking for coffee table books and a great chai, then look no further. This bookstore is also one of the largest and boasts Cha Bar. This book shop has a great selection of books in all shapes and sizes.

  1. FULL CIRCLE BOOKSTORE AND CAFÉ, SHOP 23, MIDDLE LANE, KHAN MARKET

Fancy having a lazy browsing session that could take all afternoon? Full Circle Bookstore should be your first choice. There are shelves full of books and the wooden floors add to the ambience. There’s also a great café located in the store for those who get a bit peckish when hunting for treasures. This is a firm favourite for those whose love of books knows no bounds.

  1. THE BOOK SHOP, 13/7 JOR BAGH MARKET, JOR BAGH

This pearl should be on any book lovers radar. Esteemed authors such as Khushwant Singh and Arundhati Roy frequent the place and why wouldn’t they? Opened in 1970 this shop remains a firm favourite and stocks literary fiction, current events, graphic novels and a multitude of genres. If there is a book that they don’t have they will go the extra mile to try obtaining it from the publishers. Just go, that’s all there is to it really.

Jacqui Jonk

My name is Jacqui and ever since I was young I have loved literature and writing. After a stint at Africa Business News in South Africa I really became interested in writing as a serious part of my future endeavours. I am still very new at content writing although I have had small opportunities here and there for Forbes Africa as well as Radio Live Green Smart. I am interested in blogging and have recently started social media pages as well as a website www.portablemagic.co.za as a platform for all artists to showcase their work. I do need to spend more time on this platform and plan to dedicate a significant portion of 2018 to it as well as growing my writing portfolio.
